Surgery with Assistance
Original acrylic on canvas by Tommy Fiendish (Royal College of Art graduate Thomas D Wright), 2019. A darkly humorous meditation on contemporary medicine and technology.
The canvas depicts a surgical scene interrupted by the glow of an iPad streaming YouTube—a collision of clinical precision and digital distraction. A hare clutches the artist's signature fiendish orange flower motif, anchoring the surreal tableau.
The deliberately unfinished elements of the canvas mirror the work-in-progress nature of the surgery itself, creating visual tension between completion and incompleteness. This formal choice elevates the conceptual wit of the piece.
Framed in black, 130 × 160 cm, ready to hang. Accompanied by a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity with the artist's written narrative on the reverse of the linen.
