Molasses House announces THE MIRRORED CUBE by Hannah Nijsten
Opens on the 21st August, 2024
The Outernet, Tottenham Court Road, London

Molasses House artist Hannah Nijsten is set to unveil her latest installation, ‘The Mirrored Cube’, at The Outernet in London on Wednesday August 21st at 3pm offering audiences an unprecedented, unexpected, and immersive experience.

Hannah Nijsten has created a distinct position for herself in the art world with her unique square style of painting. Hannah’s experience of synaesthesia – a rare neurological condition where the senses become entwined – means she is hyper-sensitive to light and high-frequency music.

Inspired by the persistent disconnect observed between physical and digital art during exhibitions, Hannah Nijsten created the concept of ‘The Mirrored Cube’ to create a seamless bridge between these two worlds. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a stunning 5m x 5m mirrored cube designed to reflect and enhance the interplay between digital visuals and surprise real-world elements. The effect is a dynamic and interactive environment for visitors.

The Mirrored Cube serves not only as a physical structure but as a pivotal element in a real-time performance that encapsulates the essence of the show. Digital cubed balloons will appear and descend on The Outernet’s expansive 25-metre screens, seemingly hitting the ‘ground’ on the displays. At this precise moment, identical physical cubed balloons will be launched from the mirrored cube, creating a synchronised event where the digital seamlessly meets the physical.

Nijsten said: “This installation merges tangible and digital elements, through which I invite viewers to step into a world where sensory perception meets technology, weaved in a narrative exploring the affecting and phenomenal impact of synaesthesia. I hope it will deliver feelings and sensations, which strike a deep emotional chord and transmit the unique perspective that this entwining of senses provides. Essentially, giving all who attend a truly memorable experience.”

Hannah Nijsten’s installation at The Outernet offers a pioneering approach to contemporary art exhibitions, redefining the viewer’s engagement with art, making ‘The Mirrored Cube’ a must-see event.
